TCA Finally Announces Full-Fledged Apex Council After Pranab Das’s Complaint

Date:

Agartala, 27th August 2026 :  ‘Just a few months before the expiry of its term, the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) has finally announced its full-fledged Apex Council. The development came following a complaint filed by former Tripura cricketer Pranab Das regarding the composition of the Apex Council.

The current three-year TCA committee was formed on February 14, 2024. Nearly 30 months after its formation, TCA Secretary Subrata Dey issued a memorandum on August 24, 2026, announcing the association’s complete Apex Council.

According to sources, Pranab Das had recently lodged a specific complaint before BCCI Ombudsman and former Supreme Court judge Justice Arun Mishra, alleging that the present TCA committee had illegally included Sunny Saha as an invited member of the Apex Council and had failed to include any former cricketer in the council.

Following the complaint regarding alleged constitutional violations by the present TCA committee, the BCCI Ombudsman reportedly issued a show-cause notice to TCA and sought the association’s response and position on the matter.

Sources said the development prompted the TCA management to act swiftly. The association subsequently informed the concerned authorities that there were no former cricketers in its Apex Council. Thereafter, following BCCI directions and recommendations from the Indian Cricketers’ Association, two former cricketers—one male and one female—were selected as members of the TCA Apex Council.

The most significant development, however, came on August 24, when TCA Secretary Subrata Dey announced the newly constituted full-fledged Apex Council. Sunny Saha, who had until then been serving as an invited member, was not included in the newly announced nine-member council.

A review of the developments indicates that the announcement of the complete Apex Council just a few months before the expiry of the present committee’s tenure, the inclusion of two former cricketers, and the removal of Sunny Saha as an invited member were all triggered by the complaint filed by former cricketer Pranab Das.

The latest development has therefore brought renewed attention to the functioning and constitutional compliance of the present TCA committee.
