Temple attack and theft sparks outrage at Mohanpur

Agartala, 8th  June 2026:   A shocking incident of temple vandalism and theft has been reported from Kalikamura Purba Para under Amgachhia Panchayat in Mohanpur constituency, within the jurisdiction of Sidhai Police Station.

According to local sources, miscreants targeted the Shri Shri Narmadeshwar Shivling and Bir Hanuman temple under the cover of darkness, breaking in and looting valuables. When the priest and residents opened the temple in the morning, they discovered the premises ransacked, with items scattered across the floor. The culprits allegedly stole a silver chain weighing over 4 bhari (approx. 46 grams).

Temple priest and Subrata Sarkar, founder-president of the temple trust, condemned the attack and demanded strict action against those responsible. Sarkar confirmed that a formal complaint would be lodged at Sidhai Police Station.

Police officials visited the site soon after receiving the report and initiated an investigation. The incident has triggered widespread tension and outrage in the locality, with residents demanding swift identification and punishment of the culprits.
