Agartala, 20th June 2025:   A tense situation took place in the Churaibari area of Tripura this morning after local pig farm traders intercepted a vehicle allegedly transporting pigs from Assam into the state without authorization. The vehicle, bearing registration number AS01OC3304, was reportedly en route to Manu with 70 pigs on board.

Local farm traders claimed the pigs were being brought into Tripura illegally, raising concerns over both market disruption and potential health risks to native livestock. “Unregulated inflow of pigs from outside the state not only lowers local market prices but also risks spreading diseases among local breeds,” said one of the protesting traders.

Upon receiving reports of the blockade, a team from Churaibari Police Station rushed to the spot and quickly brought the situation under control. Authorities took custody of the vehicle and livestock, and later escorted them back to Assam.

The incident has triggered anger among local farmers, who are now calling for stricter administrative vigilance to prevent similar episodes in the future. Police officials have confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
