Agartala, 29th August 2026: Tension prevailed near the Dharmanagar railway station following an anti-drug operation in which three youths were detained and a house was allegedly vandalised by an agitated crowd.
According to local sources, members of the local Egiye Cholo Club detained three youths who were allegedly found in an intoxicated condition near the railway station during an evening drive. The detained individuals were identified as Sanjit Nath of Jaygush Padmapur, Kishanjit Ghosh of Noapara and another youth.
Club members reportedly claimed that during questioning, the youths named Nurul Haque, a resident of the railway station area, as the alleged source from whom they had obtained narcotics. Subsequently, some club members and locals went to Haque’s residence, where the situation reportedly became tense.
Amid the confrontation, a section of the crowd allegedly vandalised the house. Police from Dharmanagar police station rushed to the spot after receiving information and brought the situation under control.
Local residents also claimed that containers containing suspicious substances were recovered from an elderly woman present at the house. However, the nature of the substances and whether they are narcotics have not yet been officially confirmed.
The incident has sparked renewed concern among residents over alleged drug-related activities around the railway station. While locals have demanded stronger action against the drug trade, concerns have also been raised over the dangers of vigilantism and property damage during anti-drug drives.
Dharmanagar police have launched an investigation into the detention of the three youths, the alleged recovery of suspicious substances and the reported vandalism.
