Agartala, 22nd October 2024:  Tensions flared in Charilam following reports of an attack allegedly carried out by Tipra Motha-backed goons, who assaulted several individuals at the Charilam market, purportedly targeting BJP workers. The incident has sparked concern over rising unrest in the area.

BJP leader Pratik Kishore Dev Varma addressed the situation, asserting that while the BJP-Tipra Motha alliance government is functioning smoothly, there are forces attempting to destabilize the state by sowing division within the alliance.

“Attempts to incite communal tension have been made in Charilam Assembly Constituency,” Pratik said. “Recently, a temple was vandalized in Bishalgarh. Last night, Jakir Hossen and his group entered the market, armed with sharp weapons. Some are portraying this as a political issue, but this individual has a history of communal activities,” he stated.

Pratik emphasized that the goal appears to be to create discord within the alliance. “There are antisocial elements using political parties as a cover to provoke unrest. This individual attacked a man and vandalized a vehicle. I am not blaming any party, but this person is clearly working to stir trouble. We must not shelter such individuals,” he told the media.

In a related statement, Mandal President Rajkumar Debnath pointed out Jakir Hossen’s past criminal activities, claiming that since 2019, multiple cases have been filed against him. “We strongly condemn these actions and call for strict measures against him,” Debnath said. “They are trying to damage the government’s reputation.”

Later, Pratik, Rajkumar, and several local leaders held a dharna outside Bishalgarh Police Station, demanding action against Jakir Hossen and lodging an FIR to press the issue further.
