Agartala, 19th September 2025:    A bizarre incident took place on Friday morning at Maguruli village near the India-Bangladesh border in Kailashahar, Unakoti district, following an alleged firing incident involving the Border Security Force (BSF).

Local sources informed that Nurul Islam (28), a resident of Ward No. 3 in Maguruli, sustained a critical gunshot wound to the neck after BSF personnel allegedly entered his residence around 7 AM and opened fire without provocation. Family members claim the BSF stormed into their home and fired at Islam, who was later rushed by locals to Unakoti District Hospital.

Dr. Mayuri Pal initially attended to the injured youth, followed by ENT specialist Dr. Arup Chakraborty. “The patient was brought in around 8:00 AM with a gunshot injury to the neck. After preliminary treatment, he was immediately referred to GB Hospital in Agartala for advanced care,” Dr. Chakraborty confirmed.

However, Islam’s family expressed frustration over delays in ambulance services, alleging that the government vehicle took considerable time to arrive, worsening his condition.

In contrast, BSF sources have presented a conflicting narrative. A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity claimed that Nurul Islam also known as Raju has long been involved in cross-border smuggling activities. On the morning of the incident, he allegedly provoked BSF personnel by filming them and behaving aggressively despite repeated warnings. The BSF reportedly fired in self-defense to control the situation.
