Agartala, 29th November 2025: Concerns are mounting over possible unrest at the Nagerjala bus stand as political rivalry between two groups spills into the transport sector. Frequent press conferences and media statements have seen one faction accusing the other of attempting to project itself as nationalist, a move that has only worsened passenger difficulties at the busy terminal.
For several weeks, simmering tensions have persisted between bus operators from Udaipur and Agartala. The situation escalated when three Udaipur bus owners Bimal Deb, Raju Majumder, and Partha Chakraborty allegedly made derogatory remarks against the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh.
In response, the West Tripura District Bus and Jeep Drivers’ Association staged a press conference today, demanding that the three accused owners issue a public apology within three days. Association leaders warned that failure to comply would trigger a larger protest, including a shutdown of buses, jeeps, and auto-rickshaws across West Tripura.
Abdul Haque, General Secretary of the association, outlined the demands in detail, stressing that the remarks had deeply offended workers. He cautioned that if attempts to assert nationalist credentials continue to inflame tensions at the bus stand, the government could face public criticism for failing to maintain order.
Voices from the broader workers’ community have already urged the administration to act responsibly, advising both factions to exercise restraint and avoid provocative behavior that could disrupt public transport and tarnish the state’s image.
