TGEF delegation meets Health Director, submits 9 demands memorandum

Agartala, 8th May 2025:  A delegation of the Tripura Government Employees Federation (TGEF) met with the Director of the Health department Professor Dr. Tapan Majumder at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) office in Gorkhabasti, Agartala. The meeting, which took place in the evening, saw the delegation submitting a detailed memorandum containing nine demands aimed at improving working conditions and addressing staffing shortages in healthcare institutions across the state.

The delegation consisted of several senior leaders from the Tripura Government Employees Federation (TGEF) and allied organizations. Among them were Samar Roy, Vice Chairman of the Tripura Road Transport Corporation and Secretary General of TGEF and Sanjib Chakraborty, President of TGEF. Subhash Sutradhar, Acting Secretary General of TGEF, and Mrinal Chakraborty, Treasurer of TGEF were also present.

Additionally, the delegation included Dipak Das, Secretary General of All Tripura Employees Federation, and Biswajit Deb, President of Tripura Employees Action Committee. Representing the Tripura Health Department Employees Association, an affiliate of TGEF, were Madan Debbarma, Vice Chairman, Debabrata Ghosh, President, Ashok Deb, General Secretary and Sujit Sharma, Treasurer.

Additional federation leadership, including Ananda Das, Kishore Ghosh, Ratan Sharma and Subhankar Ghosh also participated in the deputation.

During the discussion, held in a cordial atmosphere, the delegation emphasized the need to implement reforms beneficial to both health department employees and the general public. Prof. Dr. Majumder assured the delegation that necessary steps would be taken to address the demands put forth by the federation.

The nine key demands outlined in the memorandum include the urgent appointment of nursing officers and paramedical staff across state hospitals to address workforce shortages. The delegation emphasized the need for recruiting ministerial staff to fill administrative gaps in hospitals, institutes, and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) offices. Addressing employee shortages at all levels within the health sector was also highlighted as a crucial requirement. Additionally, the memorandum urged authorities to fill vacant posts of Multipurpose Worker Officers (MPWO) and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM) to ensure adequate service delivery in sub-health centers.

Another major demand was the provision of advanced life support ambulances in all hospitals to enhance emergency medical services. The delegation advocated for the implementation of an ad-hoc promotion process to streamline career advancement for eligible employees. They also called for the regularization of irregular employees, ensuring employment stability for long-serving contractual staff. The memorandum further proposed filling vacant driver positions by recruiting from among Group-D employees who possess valid driving licenses and relevant experience. Lastly, hiring multi-tasking staff was stressed as a vital step in addressing Group-D staff shortages in various branches of the health department.

Following the meeting with Prof. Dr. Majumder, the delegation also held a courtesy interview with the Deputy Director and Head of Office of the Health department Dr. Rajesh Anil Acharya to further discuss key concerns related to employee welfare and departmental functioning.

The Tripura Government Employees Federation continues to advocate for systematic improvements to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure and improve the working conditions of employees. The delegation expressed optimism regarding the state government’s willingness to address their demands in a timely manner.
