Agartala, 17th May 2024:  A local named Raju Das of Sonamura Chowmuhani in Udaipur was arrested by railway officials and staff for alleged theft at Udaipur railway station on Friday. Over the past several days, the station had been plagued by the disappearance of construction materials, causing distress among the workers and prompting an outcry for action.

“We’ve been on high alert after some crucial construction documents went missing just yesterday,” said a railway worker, who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s been a challenging week for all of us here.”

The breakthrough came early Friday morning when vigilant officials noticed an auto-rickshaw suspiciously collecting several items from the station premises. In a swift response, they detained the individual, later identified as Das, and secured him to a station pillar to prevent escape.

“The situation escalated quickly, and we had to act fast,” recounted one of the railway officials. “Our primary concern was to recover the stolen goods and ensure the safety of the station’s property.”

The suspect was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation. The railway department has expressed relief at the arrest and hopes it will deter future incidents. The station’s protest, which had gathered momentum since the early hours, has since disbanded following the arrest.

The police are now conducting a thorough investigation to recover the stolen items and ascertain the full extent of the thefts. The railway department has pledged full cooperation with the authorities to bring the matter to a close.
