Agartala, 20th July 2025: A water pump house adjacent to Kanchanmala SB School under Golaghati assembly constituency was raided by a group of unidentified thieves late last night resulting in the theft of valuable government infrastructure. Local police have launched an investigation into the incident.
According to sources, Dipak Roy, the pump operator had shut down the machine and locked the premises as per routine. However, during the night, miscreants broke the lock and made away with two newly installed water filtering machines and a high-value government cable.
“The door was wide open when I reached the spot early this morning. I realized immediately that thieves had targeted the pump house again. It’s deeply concerning,” recounted Roy.
Upon finding the break-in, Roy promptly notified Kanchanmala Gram Panchayat Pradhan Rajesh Das and officials from the DWS office in Badharghat. Das then lodged a formal report with Amtali Police Station.
“This pump house is a lifeline for West Kanchanmala residents. Stealing equipment worth Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 is not only a criminal act—it’s a direct blow to a community’s access to clean drinking water,” Das told reporters.
Das urged swift action from law enforcement. “Such individuals must be dealt with firmly. On behalf of the local residents, I appeal to the police administration to investigate thoroughly and ensure justice.”
The Amtali Police Station accompanied by Das and local authorities, has since inspected the scene and begun inquiries into the matter. No arrests have been reported as of yet.
