Agartala, 3rd June 2026: The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has asked the state Health Directorate to submit reports within 15 days on two separate cases of alleged medical negligence that reportedly led to patient deaths at government hospitals.
In the first case, the Commission took cognizance of a report involving a patient at GB Pant Hospital who was allegedly found in a critical condition inside a toilet in the Medicine Ward and later died. The order noted that hospital staff were accused of failing to check on the patient despite the prolonged situation, describing it as a possible violation of the patient’s human rights.
In another incident, the Commission referred to reports of a pregnant woman’s death at IGM Hospital, where allegations have been raised that the absence of medical officers contributed to the tragedy. The THRC observed that the news reports indicated serious concerns about the quality of healthcare services and possible negligence.
In both matters, the Commission has directed the Director of Health Services, Government of Tripura, to submit detailed reports by July 3 after reviewing the newspaper reports and related documents.
