Three children drown in river Khowai

Agartala: May 21. In a tragic incident three children were drowned in a river at Khowai in Tripura this morning.

The heartbreaking incident took place around eleven o’clock on Sunday at Charganaki Godaraghat area of Paschim Ganaki Panchayat near Khowai town.

According to the details of the incident, there was a social function on Saturday at the house of one Gopal Namadas of Charganaki Godaraghat area. Two daughters of Gopal live in Bishalgarh and Moharchara. Two children of those two girls, Saptadip Nama (7) of Bishalgarh and Mautusi Das (12) of Moharchara, came to visit their grandfather’s house on the occasion of Saturday’s social event.

Around 11 o’clock on Sunday, Grandfather Gopal Namadas along with Grandson Saptadip Nama and Moutusi Das went to take bathe in the river Khowai

Seeing them going to the river, two other children of the neighborhood Babli Roy (11) and Ayan Das (6) followed them towards the river. Ayan Das was bathing with Gopal Namadas.

But he however didn’t notice when Saptadip, Moutusi and Babli fell into a in the river.

Soon he tried to save them and started screaming.

 At that time, OC Rajkumar Jamatia of Khowai Police Station was driving along the nearby road to investigate a case.

Hearing the screams, he went towards the river and other people of also rushed to the river. After a lot of effort, the local people managed to rescue two children named Saptadip and Babli Roy from the river in a dead condition. But the other child named Moutusi Das was nowhere to be found.

The news reached the police station and the fire brigade. The police and fire brigade also rushed. However, by then the frozen body of the child named Mautusi Das was washed away in the river. When the three children were taken to the district hospital, the doctor on duty declared all three dead. The heart-wrenching and shocking incident cast a shadow of deep grief over the entire subdivision.
