Three-day third Pari Mohan Folk Culture Festival: A celebration of heritage and unity

Agartala, 31st March 2025:   Dharmanagar witnessed vibrant celebrations as the three-day third Pari Mohan Folk Culture Festival took palce from March 28 to March 30 organized by Pari Mohan Social Welfare Society in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The festival began on March 28 at 11 a.m., with a seminar on folk culture, a debate competition, and a quiz competition jointly hosted by Pari Mohan Social Welfare Society and the Cultural Sub-Committee of Dharmanagar Government College. Chairperson of Dharmanagar Municipal Council, Parsan Mitali Rani Das Sen, inaugurated the program, stating, “This initiative beautifully brings students closer to our rich cultural heritage.” Around three hundred students participated, and certificates and prizes were awarded to winners of the competitions.

On March 29 at 6 p.m., the remaining cultural events were inaugurated at the Vivekananda 150th Anniversary Bhavan by Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswabandhu Sen. Addressing the audience, he remarked, “Our folk culture is at risk due to Western influences. Festivals like these are crucial for reviving interest and preserving tradition.” The event was also graced by Parsan Mitali Rani Das Sen, senior journalist Samar Chakraborty, and social worker Jagatjyoti Deb. Samar Chakraborty shared, “The inclusion of discussions, debates, and quizzes on folk culture infused life into the festivities.”

The festival attracted folk artists from Dharmanagar, across Tripura, and beyond, who presented diverse performances showcasing Bengali and Tripura folk genres. Intellectuals lauded the event, expressing that it instilled enthusiasm and joy among the youth. “Such events inspire the younger generation to embrace and celebrate our heritage,” noted an attendee.

Himadrisekhar Debnath, convener of the festival, thanked participants and audiences, stating, “We aim to keep folk culture alive through various programs throughout the year, promoting societal and cultural enrichment.”

The Pari Mohan Folk Culture Festival successfully blended tradition, education, and entertainment, leaving Dharmanagar with memories of unity and cultural pride.
