Three Drug Traffickers Caught in Kamalpur with 21.5 kg of Cannabis; Fake ‘Press’ Sticker Used to Evade Police

Date:

Agartala, 31ST May 2026:  In a significant anti-narcotics operation, police in Kamalpur arrested three drug traffickers on Sunday after recovering 21.5 kilograms of cannabis from a vehicle at the Durga Chowmuhani naka point.

According to police sources, intelligence inputs indicated that a vehicle carrying a large quantity of cannabis was en route from Agartala to an interstate destination. Acting on the tip-off, police intensified surveillance at the checkpoint.

Shortly afterward, a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number AS-15-J-8566 was intercepted and thoroughly searched. During the inspection, officers recovered 21 kg 500 grams of cannabis hidden inside the vehicle. The three occupants were immediately detained for questioning.

Police officials said one of the accused initially attempted to pose as a journalist and the vehicle was fitted with a “Press” sticker in an apparent attempt to avoid scrutiny and facilitate illegal transportation of narcotics. However, preliminary investigation confirmed that none of them were journalists.

All three accused, identified as residents of Bihar, have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the cannabis and identify others involved in the trafficking network.
