Agartala, 15th September 2026 :Amtali Police have arrested three alleged members of a theft gang during a night patrol operation near the Amtali bypass, police said on Tuesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rabiul Miah, Shamim Miah and Tinku Sarkar. According to Amtali Police Station OC Rana Chatterjee, police had been monitoring the movements of suspicious individuals during night patrols following confidential information about the gang.
Police claimed the trio was involved in thefts from houses and vehicles parked in Agartala and adjoining areas. They also allegedly targeted vehicle batteries. Tools reportedly used for breaking locks and doors, along with materials linked to battery theft, were recovered during the operation.
Police further said cases involving property-related offences had previously been registered against the suspects at different police stations.
During preliminary interrogation, investigators reportedly learned that the arrested persons had several accomplices and were planning further thefts in different areas. Police are working to identify and arrest the other members of the gang.
The three accused were produced before a court, with police seeking three days’ remand for further interrogation. Investigators hope to obtain information about their involvement in other theft cases and identify additional members of the gang.
