Agartala, 22nd October 2024: In the early hours of Tuesday, security personnel at Agartala Railway Station apprehended three Rohingya and two Bangladeshi nationals who were allegedly attempting to leave Tripura.
According to Officer-in-Charge of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Tapas Das, authorities had received a tip-off suggesting that a group of foreign nationals, including Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, would arrive at the station. In response, a joint team comprising GRP, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Border Security Force (BSF) officials, disguised in civilian attire, was deployed at the station.
“When the individuals arrived, we detained five of them. Initially, they claimed to be Indian nationals, but upon further questioning, three were identified as Rohingya, and two were found to be Bangladeshi citizens. They had crossed into the state illegally,” Das said.
The detained Rohingya nationals reportedly planned to travel to Hyderabad, while the Bangladeshis intended to reach Mumbai.Das also confirmed the seizure of Bangladeshi currency, documents, and mobile phones from the suspects. He added that the authorities would be presenting the detainees in court to seek police remand for further investigation.
