Agartala, 1st July 2025:   The state-level observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held on Tuesday at Agartala Town Hall reaffirming Tripura’s commitment to tackling the rising threat of drug addiction. The program was organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education.

Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports department Tinku Roy inaugurated the event emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance approach toward drugs. “The central and state governments are working hand in hand to eliminate this scourge. But a drug-free Tripura is only possible through united societal efforts,” the minister stated.

Highlighting the critical role of youth, Roy called upon educational institutions to lead grassroots awareness efforts. “The youth must remain alert and educate their peers about the devastating impact of substance abuse,” he said.

Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, along with senior officials and civil society members, attended the event, which focused on building a community-driven resistance to addiction.

The program concluded with a resounding appeal to students, educators, and community leaders to champion the fight against drug abuse and foster a healthier, addiction-free Tripura.
