Agartala, 23rd June 2025: The ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ was observed in Tripura today with a vibrant awareness rally organized jointly by the West Tripura District Administration and the District Social Education Officer’s Office.
The event began with a colorful procession from in front of Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala, drawing participation from government officials, social workers, anti-drug organizations, and citizens from various walks of life. The procession culminated in front of the Tripura Women’s Commission office after moving through key locations in the city.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Tinku Roy emphasized the collective responsibility in the fight against drug abuse.
“This awareness rally is not just symbolic—it is a call to action for every section of society. We must work together every day to build a drug-free Tripura,” the minister said.
Roy also stressed the importance of community involvement, stating that combating drug abuse should not be the sole responsibility of the administration, but a collaborative effort involving the public, civil society, and grassroots organizations.
Chairperson of the Tripura Women’s Commission, Jharna Debbarma, along with other senior officials and activists, also took part in the rally, underlining the administration’s commitment to addressing the growing concern of drug abuse in the state.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from youth groups, school children, NGOs, and members of various social and cultural organizations, all uniting under the shared goal of promoting a healthier, addiction-free society.
