Agartala, 31st August 2024:  Chiranjit Dey, a resident of Indranagar in the capital, lost his life while heroically attempting to save others during the recent devastating floods. On Saturday, Tipra Motha supremo Pradyut Kishore Debbarman accompanied by Minister Brishaketu Debbarman and other officials, visited the home of the late Chiranjit Dey to offer their condolences and support to his grieving family.

Pradyut Kishore Debbarman, often referred to as the Maharaja, made a significant gesture by visiting the affected family. This visit marked the first time since the floods that he and his team had ventured into the flood-affected areas. During his visit, Debbarman spoke with Chiranjit Dey’s elderly parents, offering them words of comfort and financial assistance.

“The flood has shown us that we need to work together,” Devavarman told the media. He announced that he would personally provide financial aid to the families of those who lost their lives in the floods. True to his word, he handed over Rs 50,000 to Chiranjit Dey’s family.

Debbarman also addressed the recent incident in Ranirbazar, where a Kali statue was vandalized, leading to communal tensions and property damage. “There is a political hand behind this communal conflict,” he stated. “But communal violence has no place in Tripura. Our state is a developed one, where people of different religions coexist peacefully. Those responsible for the vandalism should be arrested. Destroying people’s homes is unacceptable. India should not emulate the divisive actions seen in Pakistan and Bangladesh.”

The floods, described as the worst in Tripura’s history, have sparked widespread criticism of local leaders. Notably absent from the scene was Kriti Singh Debbarman, MP from East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency. His absence has raised questions and criticism from various quarters. Addressing these concerns, Pradyut Kishore Debbarman clarified, “Kriti Singh Debbarman is in Agartala. He will visit Gomati district and Santirbazar on Sunday. He has already pledged ₹1 crore to aid the flood-affected people. Now is not the time for politics; it is a time for unity. People from all walks of life are suffering, and we must all work together.”

Debbarman also touched upon the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration into the state. “The intrusion of Bangladeshi citizens into our state cannot be accepted,” he asserted. “While Bangladesh is facing its own troubles, we cannot allow its citizens to enter India illegally. I hope the Indian government will take strict measures to address this issue.”

The visit and statements by Pradyut Kishore Debbarman underscore the urgent need for unity and collective action in the face of natural disasters and communal tensions.
