Tipra Motha Leader Denies Corruption Charges, Threatens Defamation Case against BJP leader

Date:

Agartala, 29th April 2026:   Following the recently concluded ADC elections, the political landscape across Tripura—especially in Ambassa has witnessed a noticeable shift, with rising exchanges of allegations between rival parties.

On April 27, BJP Janajati Morcha member Sanjay Reang alleged that Gouranga Debbarma, who recently joined the Tipra Motha party, left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with the intention of securing a chairmanship position. Reang further accused Debbarma of misusing government funds under the MGNREGA scheme and claimed that his switch to Tipra Motha was driven by personal ambition for power.

In response, a press conference was held today at the Tipra Motha party office in Nailaha Bari area under Ambassa subdivision. During the interaction with media, Gouranga Debbarma strongly denied all allegations made by Sanjay Reang. He stated that his decision to join the Tipra Motha was motivated by his admiration for the Maharaja and the party’s ideology.

Debbarma also counter-alleged that Sanjay Reang himself had purchased a vehicle using government housing funds and accused him of being addicted to intoxicants. He further stated that if Reang fails to substantiate his claims with evidence, he would initiate a defamation case against him.

The press conference was attended by Pintu Kalai, IT cell member of Ambassa Block 47, and Sadhana Manik, Chairperson of Raipasa Village, among others.

The exchange of allegations has further intensified the political atmosphere in the region following the election results, reflecting deepening rivalry between the BJP and Tipra Motha in Tripura’s tribal areas.
