Agartala, 17th April 2026: The counting of votes for the 28 seats of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections began this morning across 17 centres under tight security, with early trends placing Tipra Motha Party in the lead.
After the first round of counting, Tipra Motha is leading in 22 seats, while the BJP is ahead in 5 seats. More rounds of counting are underway, and the trends are expected to evolve as the process continues.
The TTAADC elections were held on April 12, recording a significant voter turnout of 83 percent, reflecting strong participation from the electorate.
According to State Election Commission officials, the counting process commenced at 8:00 AM, beginning with the verification of VVPAT slips. Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) counting started 30 minutes later, following established protocols.
“We have ensured all necessary arrangements. Counting began with VVPAT verification at 8 AM, followed by EVM counting shortly thereafter. The process is being conducted across 17 locations. District Magistrates were instructed to enforce Section 163 of the BNS, which has already been implemented,” an official said.
Authorities have deployed adequate security forces to maintain law and order and ensure a smooth counting process.
A total of 173 candidates are in the fray, representing major political parties such as BJP, CPI(M), Congress, Tipra Motha, and IPFT.
The elections saw participation from 9,62,547 registered voters across 1,257 polling stations.
The final outcome is expected to significantly influence the political direction of the autonomous district council in Tripura.
