Agartala, 24th March 2026:   The TIPRA Motha Party on Tuesday unveiled its list of candidates for the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), scheduled for April 12. The announcement comes as political activity intensifies across the state ahead of the crucial 30-member council polls.

The party has fielded candidates across multiple constituencies, aiming to consolidate its base in tribal-dominated regions. Among those named are Bhabaranjan Reang (Damchara Jampui), Swapan Kr. Chakma (Machmara), Umasankar Reang (Kanchanpur-Dasda), Hollywood Chakma (Karamcharra), Hanshu Kumar Tripura (Chawmanu), and several others representing diverse constituencies.

However, the rollout was marred by internal discord. Despite marathon meetings led by party supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, disagreements over candidate selection delayed the formal announcement. Tensions escalated when youth workers from hill areas gathered at the party headquarters, protesting disputes over nominations.

The flashpoint emerged in Raima Valley, where the Indigenous Youth and Tribal Forum (IYTF) demanded Rajesh Tripura as the candidate. Party leadership, however, leaned towards former MLA Dhananjay Tripura. IYTF’s Raima Valley block secretary Nabin Kumar Tripura warned that denying Rajesh a ticket could cost the party nearly 22,000 votes.

With polling set for April 12 and counting on April 17, the TIPRA Motha now faces the dual challenge of rallying support while managing internal rifts that could impact its campaign momentum.
