Tipra Motha supporters clash with police in Lefunga block

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, August 23: A protest by Tipra Motha, the main opposition party in Tripura, turned violent on Wednesday as the party workers broke the police barricade and clashed with the security forces in Lefunga block Chowmuhani. The party workers were on their way to submit a deputation to the block development officer (BDO) with five-point demands.

The police had asked only a certain number of workers to go and meet the BDO, but the rest of the protesters refused to comply and started pelting stones and pushing the barricade. The police tried to control the situation by deploying paramilitary forces, but did not take any strict action against the agitators.

The incident created panic among the local shopkeepers and block employees, who closed their shops and took shelter in safe places. The protesters also damaged some government property in the area.

Tipra Motha, which was formed last year, has been agitating on various issues related to the interests of the indigenous people of Tripura. However, some observers have accused the party of creating disorder and disrupting peace in the state. They have alleged that some party activists and supporters are involved in violent activities in the name of protest, which could lead to major unpleasant events at any time.

The party has not commented on the incident yet. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
