Agartala, 12th August 2025: Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday announced that the state will soon recruit tourist guides and push for additional central funds to boost tourism infrastructure.
Speaking at the inauguration of construction and development works at Chotta Khola Park in South District, Chowdhury said over ₹4 crore has been spent on renovating the park, which highlights the historic ties between India and Bangladesh.
“We are following a two-pronged approach — creating new tourist destinations with support from the Government of India, and upgrading existing spots to make them more appealing. Chotta Khola Park was developed earlier but lacked facilities. Now, we have added roads, a cafeteria, a children’s playground, parking, and toilets to make it more tourist-friendly,” he said.
The Minister said discussions are underway with the South district administration and the forest department to develop a tourist circuit linking Ludhua Tea Estate, Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, Chotta Khola Park, Dham Dhipa, and Pilak. Around ₹30 crore will be invested in Ludhua Tea Estate to make it a major attraction.
Highlighting the state’s growing popularity, Chowdhury said over 7 lakh tourists, including foreigners, visited Tripura last year. He urged local youths to open homestays in and around Chotta Khola Park, adding that plans are in place to build log huts and cottages.
“We will soon recruit tourist guides so visitors can better understand the history and heritage of our sites. The beautification of Tripura Sundari Temple is complete and awaiting inauguration. Additionally, 162 crore will be spent to develop a park in the Jirania Assembly Constituency, creating local employment opportunities. We will also seek more central assistance for tourism development,” he added.
