Date:

Agartala, 14th August 2026 :  The Tripura Police Traffic Department has issued a special traffic advisory ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, announcing restrictions on vehicle movement in key areas of Agartala on August 15, 2026.

According to the advisory, movement of private and commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, e-rickshaws, rickshaws and handcarts will remain restricted from 8:30 am to 12 noon at three locations. The restrictions will apply to vehicles moving from Gurkha Basti towards the south, Buddha Mandir towards the north, and Malancha Niwas towards Circuit House. School children will be exempted from the restrictions.

The Traffic Department has also made arrangements for essential movement during the restricted period. Vehicles carrying patients to G.B. Hospital will be permitted to use the route through Abhoynagar Bazar–Kumari Tilla–G.B. Hospital.

Passengers travelling to the airport have been advised to use the Durga Chowmuhani–Barjala road via Panchabati Kali Mandir as an alternative route.

The advisory also declares several stretches as No Parking Zones. These include both sides of the road from the old Lok Bhawan main gate to Buddha Mandir, from Buddha Mandir to old MLA Hostel No. 1 along Cantonment Road, and the stretch from Buddha Mandir to Abhoynagar Post Office.

The Traffic Police has urged commuters to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes to avoid congestion. Citizens have also been reminded to follow traffic rules, wear seat belts and helmets, avoid mobile phone use while driving, refrain from overspeeding and never drink and drive during the Independence Day celebrations.
