Agartala, September 15: A shocking incident took place at Gomati District Hospital as a sub-inspector, Gauranga Debbarma, aged 58 and a resident of Udaipur Police Line area, tragically lost his life due to a lack of timely medical attention. Debbarma, who served at Raishyabari police station, fell seriously ill at his home on Friday, setting off a series of events that have now raised serious questions about the state of healthcare services in the region.
Debbarma’s daughter-in-law, in a poignant statement, pointed a damning finger at the healthcare services provided by the district hospital. According to her account, after rushing Debbarma to the hospital in a critical condition, they were met with a disheartening absence of medical personnel. The family desperately sought help from doctors and health workers, only to encounter repeated indifference and apathy. Their pleas for assistance were allegedly met with harassment, leaving them in a state of distress.
It was only after a considerable delay that a health worker arrived to administer saline to Gauranga Debbarma. Tragically, he passed away shortly after receiving this minimal medical attention. In the aftermath of this heart-wrenching incident, the family members are now squarely blaming the hospital’s doctors and health workers for the untimely demise of their loved one.
This incident has once again spotlighted the dire state of healthcare services in Tripura, from the primary referral hospital to district and sub-divisional hospitals. Demands are growing for the immediate formation of an inquiry committee to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding Gauranga Debbarma’s death, with the hope of preventing such devastating incidents from occurring in the future. The community, and indeed the entire state, awaits answers and accountability in this deeply troubling case.
