Agartala, 28th June 2024: The area adjacent to Harer Khola High School was engulfed in shock and grief as the dead body of a youth was found floating in a nearby pond. The deceased has been identified as 37-year-old Rajesh Das was found by his family early Friday morning.
Speaking to reporters here, elder brother Rakesh Das said “Rajesh was unmarried and had been struggling with drug addiction for a long time,” Rakesh said. “It rained heavily on Thursday afternoon, and he probably went to the pond earlier in the evening to see if the fish would come out. He must have lost his balance and fallen in. We searched for him from evening until late at night. His body was found floating in the pond the next morning.”
The Kamalpur police were promptly informed of the incident. They, in turn, alerted the Disaster Management workers of Kamalpur. The police recovered Rajesh’s body and transported it to Bimal Singh Memorial Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The initial belief of the family is that Rajesh died by drowning, likely exacerbated by his daily drug use. The tragic incident has cast a pall over the neighborhood, with residents expressing their sorrow and concern over the pervasive issue of drug addiction in the community.
As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of a young life cut tragically short.
