Agartala, 2nd September 2024: A shocking incident took place on Post Office Road at Kanchanpur Bazar, where a youth was brutally attacked a schoolgirl. Kartik Nath (26) from Gopalpur area of Kanchanpur subdivision suddenly stabbed Tania Barua, a 10th-grade student of Kanchanpur Class XII School in the neck.
The attack took place while Tania was on her way to private tuition at her tutor’s house. Nath intercepted her near the Kanchanpur post office and before passers-by could react, struck her with a sharp knife. In a horrifying turn of events, Nath then attempted to commit suicide by slashing his own throat.
Witnesses were left in shock as the scene took place. A passer-by quickly alerted the Kanchanpur police, who rushed both the injured girl and her attacker to the Kanchanpur sub-divisional hospital. Tragically, the attending doctor declared Tana Barua dead on arrival. Nath was referred to North Tripura District Hospital, Dharmanagar for further treatment.
Kanchanpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Udyam Debbarma provided a statement on the incident. The tragic news has left the students and residents of Kanchanpur in a state of shock and mourning.
