Agartala, 4th December 2025 : Serious concerns have emerged in Sonamura after an electrical transformer was found installed in an unsafe manner directly in front of the entrance of the Sonamura Sub-Divisional Hospital.
The transformer, set up to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the hospital, has reportedly been placed on a fragile base made of a few bricks laid on the ground. Even more alarming, the only protective barrier around the high-voltage equipment is a temporary fence made of bamboo poles.
Local residents have strongly criticized the arrangement, calling it highly dangerous for a sensitive and crowded public facility like a hospital. Hundreds of patients, their relatives, and visitors pass through the entrance every day, raising fears of a major accident or even a fire outbreak at any moment.
Residents allege that despite clear technical standards requiring a solid foundation and secure enclosure, the transformer has been installed in a careless and risky manner, reflecting administrative negligence. They argue that bamboo fencing and a weak brick base are grossly inadequate for ensuring safety.
In light of the situation, locals have demanded immediate intervention from the administration and the electricity department. They insist that the transformer must be reinstalled with a proper protective structure to safeguard public interest and hospital safety. Without urgent action, they warn, the risk of a serious disaster will remain.
