Transport Minister Warns Auto Drivers of Permit Cancellation for Passenger Misbehavior

Agartala: August 23. In a stern development, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury issued a firm warning to auto drivers at the MBB Airport, cautioning them against any misconduct towards passengers.

A high-level meeting convened on Wednesday at the old passenger terminal building of the MBB Airport witnessed the Transport Minister’s assertive stance.

The conference, attended by high-ranking officials from various administrative departments, aimed to address the issue of unruly behavior by auto drivers and the deterioration of service quality at the airport.

Among the attendees were Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Tripura Road Transport Corporation Chairman Abhijit Deb, Transport Department Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Commissioner Subrata Chowdhury, MBB Airport Director Kailas Chandrameena, Tripura Police IG Monchak Yappa, Additional District Collector of West Tripura District Rajiv Dutta, West District Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar K, West District Traffic Police Superintendent Manik Das, Chief Motor Vehicle Inspector Bijay Debbarma, and other key officials.

Notably, a delegation representing the auto drivers of MBB Airport was also present during the meeting.

Minister voiced his strong disapproval of the reported harassment inflicted upon passengers by certain auto drivers at the MBB Airport.

 The Transport Minister’s message to the auto drivers was unambiguous: any misbehavior with passengers would result in immediate revocation of their permits.

He underscored that administrative authorities couldn’t dedicate time to routine meetings with the drivers and emphasized the need for responsible conduct.

In a decisive move, Minister Chowdhury also warned that if the situation did not improve promptly, the government would explore the option of engaging private agencies to manage auto and taxi services at the airport.
