Agartala, 23rd July 2025: In a bid to foster ecological consciousness and community involvement, the Sadar Subdivision of West Tripura District organized a tree plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign on Wednesday in Ward No. 35 of Agartala Municipal Corporation.
The campaign aimed at encouraging individuals to plant a tree in honor of their mothers, witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents. Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, along with other dignitaries, attended the event and lauded the spirit of the community.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Majumder urged citizens to plant and care for at least one tree as a tribute to maternal love and a step toward environmental preservation. “This small act can become a powerful response to the global climate crisis,” he remarked.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of balancing development with sustainability. Pointing to rising emissions of carbon dioxide and monoxide, he warned of their harmful impact on the ozone layer and overall ecological health. “Infrastructure is developing, but we cannot ignore the need to preserve our environment,” he added.
Mayor Majumder also highlighted the national significance of the campaign, initially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He credited the Prime Minister’s appeal for sparking a nationwide movement, inspiring people across India to participate in afforestation efforts by linking them to personal and emotional bonds.
