Tribal villagers block road in protest over seven-year neglect of Khedarnal route

Agartala, 6th August 2025 :  In a striking rebuttal to the state government’s claim of resolving civic issues without public agitation, tribal residents from four villages in the Khedarnal area of Amarpur took to the streets today demanding urgent repairs to a severely dilapidated road that has remained neglected for over seven years.

The protest involved a road blockade which was led by villagers who say they were left with no choice after repeated pleas to the administration went unanswered. The stretch of road in question has reportedly deteriorated to the point where crater-like potholes resemble ponds, posing serious risks to commuters and vehicles alike.

Local residents highlighted the daily struggles they face due to the poor condition of the road. Students are forced to navigate treacherous terrain to reach school, while market-goers and patients face delays and danger. In a tragic incident cited by the protesters, a patient died en route to the hospital recently, allegedly because the ambulance was unable to reach in time due to the road’s condition.

Despite multiple road blockades in the past, villagers claim the administration has failed to take any concrete action. “We’ve waited patiently for years, but our voices have been ignored. Today’s blockade is our last resort,” said one of the protestors.
