Agartala, 31st March 2026: In Tripura, tribal voters in certain villages of the Kathalia block are expressing frustration over persistent drinking water shortages and poor infrastructure, signaling a potential shift in their political support ahead of the upcoming autonomous district council elections.

Residents of Dhupchhara-Baluchhara and Matambari — three wards under Tholibari ADC Village in the 22nd Kathalia Mirza Rajapur area — say they have been grappling with severe drinking water scarcity for the past 8–9 years. Speaking to reporters, the tribal community stated that although politicians come and go, promises remain unfulfilled.

“As elections approach, we are compelled to make a decision,” one local voter said. “Despite repeatedly raising these issues with the administration and local representatives, nothing has been done. This time, we will not vote for the BJP; we will support Tipra Motha instead.”

Apart from water scarcity, residents also cited extremely poor road conditions, making it difficult for vehicles to enter their villages. The community emphasized that their decision is a direct response to the ongoing neglect of basic civic needs.

As the autonomous district council elections draw near, the grievances of these tribal voters could play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape in Tripura.
