Tribal Youth Federation stages sit-in protest at Agartala; Raises seven charter of demands

Date:

Agartala, 3rd July 2026:   The central committee of the Tribal Youth Federation (TYF) organized a sit-in demonstration near the Circuit House in the state capital on Friday, pressing a seven-point charter of demands that included filling vacant government posts, improving education and healthcare, boosting employment, and ensuring overall development. The protest ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

TYF General Secretary Kumud Debbarma addressed the gathering, alleging that nearly 51,784 posts across various state departments remain vacant. He criticized the government for failing to take effective steps to fill these positions and demanded immediate recruitment through a transparent and speedy process.

The organization also raised concerns over alleged irregular appointments in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), claiming that around 120 Lower Division Clerk (LDC) posts were filled without issuing any official notification. TYF leaders argued that such appointments violated recruitment norms and called for cancellation of the process, followed by fresh notifications to ensure fairness.

Debbarma further pointed out that recruitment for Deputy Project Officer posts in TTAADC has been pending for nearly two years, despite examinations being conducted. He alleged that results were not properly published and demanded immediate completion of the process.

The sit-in also highlighted cultural and educational demands, including the inclusion of the Kokborok language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, introduction of Kokborok as a subject in state colleges and universities, and appointment of qualified teachers.

TYF leaders warned that if the government fails to respond positively to these demands, the organization will be compelled to launch a larger mass movement in the coming days.
