Tributes paid to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his martyrdom day at Rangrung

Agartala, 9th June 2026:  A solemn tribute-paying ceremony was held on Tuesday to commemorate the martyrdom day of renowned freedom fighter, tribal icon, and social reformer Bhagwan Birsa Munda, popularly known as “Dharti Abba.” The programme was organized at the Rangrung School ground with the support of the Chandipur RD Block and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The event was attended by Chandipur RD Block BDO Debapriya Das, social worker Pintu Ghosh, former Vice-Chairman of the Chandipur Panchayat Samiti Sandip Kurmi, and several other dignitaries. Floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Birsa Munda as a mark of respect for his immense contribution to the freedom movement and the upliftment of tribal communities.

Speakers highlighted Birsa Munda’s courageous struggle against British rule and his relentless efforts to protect the rights, identity, and dignity of indigenous people. They stated that his ideals of justice, self-respect, and social reform continue to inspire generations across the country.

As part of the observance, a football tournament featuring 18 teams has been underway at the Rangrung School ground since Sunday. The semi-final matches were played on Tuesday, drawing enthusiastic participation from local youth and sports lovers.

A large number of residents, community leaders, sports enthusiasts, and young people attended the programme and paid heartfelt homage to the legendary tribal leader, remembering his sacrifice and enduring legacy.
