Agartala, 9th October 2025 :   Leaders of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) have lodged an FIR with the Additional Superintendent of Police at New Capital Complex Police Station in Agartala following an attack on the party’s office on Chaittaranjan Road. The delegation has urged the authorities to take strict action against those responsible.

The AITC team also met UK Chakma, Secretary to Tripura Governor Indra Sen Reddy Nallu, to press for measures addressing the attack on their office, ensure the safety of party leaders in the state, and follow up on the assault on senior leader Abhishek Banerjee during his recent visit to Tripura. The delegation warned that they would approach the courts if the police fail to act.

The attack occurs amid rising political tensions in the region, following reported assaults on BJP MPs and MLAs in North Bengal, which were subsequently followed by the alleged attack on the TMC office in Agartala.

Addressing the media after filing the FIR, TMC Spokesperson and West Bengal General Secretary Kunal Ghosh clarified that the party had no involvement in the North Bengal incident and condemned all forms of violence. He highlighted that although Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the injured, no arrests have yet been made regarding the Agartala office attack.

“The police could have acted suo motu, but no steps have been taken. Despite the attack happening in full view of law enforcement, no one has been apprehended,” Ghosh stated.

During a meeting with police officials, TMC Spokesperson Sudip Raha noted that four people were arrested for the North Bengal attacks, yet no arrests have been made in Tripura so far. MP Sushmita Dev also pointed out that a BJP spokesperson had publicly admitted to vandalizing TMC posters and banners at the Agartala office, but no action has followed.

The TMC leaders questioned whether individuals supported by the ruling party were being protected and demanded immediate police intervention, warning that legal steps would be taken if the culprits are not held accountable.
