Tripura ADC Polls concludes with  83% Turnout; Isolated Incidents Reported, Re-poll Scheduled at One Booth

Date:

Agartala, 12th April 2026:  The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections concluded at 5 PM on Sunday, registering an impressive voter turnout of around 83%, despite a few scattered incidents.

According to Tripura State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen, polling began at 7 AM and proceeded largely without major disruptions. He noted that while some complaints and minor disturbances were reported from different locations, they were promptly handled by the police, ensuring an overall peaceful voting process.

Sen stated that most polling stations had completed voting by the scheduled time, and final turnout figures may rise slightly after full data compilation. He also confirmed that there were no reports of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) malfunctions during the actual polling hours. However, minor issues detected during morning mock drills were immediately addressed by replacing the machines.

The Commission has ordered a re-poll at polling station 17/39 under the Pekurjala-Janmejoynagar constituency in Sepahijala district after allegations of ballot unit tampering. The re-poll is set to take place on April 16.

Meanwhile, police sources reported a few isolated incidents, including the throwing of crude bombs in the Boxanagar area of Sepahijala. Security personnel responded by firing blank rounds to disperse those involved, bringing the situation under control.

Additional minor incidents included the vandalism of a vehicle belonging to a BJP candidate. One individual was injured in related violence and later succumbed to injuries. Despite these occurrences, authorities maintained that the overall situation across the state remained under control and largely peaceful.
