Agartala, 11th April 2026: On the eve of the Tripura Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, Teliamura subdivision is witnessing a flurry of last-minute activity. At the office of the Returning Officer for the 11-Teliamura-Maharanipur ADC constituency, Saturday’s scene reflected the final stages of preparation.
From early morning, polling personnel arriving from different parts of the subdivision collected essential materials — including EVMs, ballot papers, and other election supplies — before setting out for their designated polling stations. Distribution was carried out in an orderly manner to ensure smooth conduct of the vote.
However, controversy has emerged around Returning Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Apurba Krishna Chakraborty. Journalists reported that despite repeated requests, he declined to share basic election-related information such as the number of voters, polling stations, or security arrangements. At one point, he was even seen folding his hands to avoid further questions. This silence has sparked debate in administrative and political circles, raising questions about whether it stems from procedural restrictions or other reasons.
Observers note that concerns about possible unrest had already surrounded the election atmosphere. The administration’s reluctance to disclose details, they argue, may heighten public anxiety.
According to official figures, the 11-Teliamura-Maharanipur constituency has 31,767 registered voters — 15,800 men and 15,967 women — across 48 polling stations.
As voting begins tomorrow, all eyes are on whether the administration can ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
