Agartala, 11th April 2026: With campaigning officially wrapped up, Tripura now braces for a crucial electoral battle as the Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) goes to polls on Sunday. Nearly 9.6 lakh voters will decide the fate of 173 candidates in what promises to be a multi-cornered contest, as authorities roll out extensive security and logistical measures to ensure free and fair elections.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), all arrangements, including extensive security measures, have been finalized to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
A total of 9,62,697 voters — 4,82,025 men, 4,80,666 women, and six from the third gender — are enrolled across 28 constituencies. As many as 173 candidates from BJP, Tipra Motha, Left Front, Congress, IPFT, and other parties are in the fray, making it a multi-cornered contest.
To strengthen law and order, 24 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been stationed across the state. Police authorities have undertaken comprehensive measures, including flag marches and area domination exercises, to instill confidence among voters.
Around 3,500 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) sourced from Madhya Pradesh have undergone mandatory checks and are secured in strong rooms. Postal ballot facilitation has achieved a 97% casting rate, with the remaining ballots dispatched via post.
The SEC has enforced a 48-hour silence period, prohibiting campaigning, media debates, and opinion polls until voting concludes. Restrictions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Representation of the People Act are in effect from April 10 evening until April 13 morning.
Movement of polling personnel begins Saturday morning, with deployment expected to finish by evening. Essential facilities have been arranged at polling stations. Voters may use alternative photo IDs such as Aadhaar, driving license, passport, or pension documents if EPIC is unavailable.
Votes will be counted on April 17. Engineers from ECIL will be present at counting centres to address technical issues with EVMs, ensuring timely declaration of results.
