Agartala, 1st June 2024: Tripura Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, CITU, All India Working Women’s Coordination Committee and All India Democratic Women’s Association organized a mass march on Saturday demanding the payment of gratuity as per a Tripura High Court order.
Former ministers Manik Dey, leaders Panchali Bhattacharya and Rama Das joined the protest highlighting the importance of their 4-point demand, which includes increased wages, extended working hours, and reinstatement of retrenched workers.
“The Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972, entitles all Anganwadi workers to gratuity,” stated Manik Dey. “The Tripura High Court mandated this payment on May 9, requiring disbursement within 30 days of retirement, with 7% interest if delayed. Yet, the state government delays compliance.”
Panchali Bhattacharya emphasized, “Our fight is for dignity, fair wages, and job security.”
Protesters submitted a deputation to the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, urging immediate action. The rally reflects deep frustration with the state’s handling of workers’ rights.
