Tripura Aniyamita Karmachari Mancha demands regularization of 40,000 contractual employees: Advocate Puroshuttam

Agartala, 22nd March 2025:   The Tripura Aniyamita Karmachari Mancha (Contractual Employees Organization) has requested an official meeting with Tripura’s Chief Secretary on March 3, 2025. The agenda of the meeting is to present a memorandum advocating for the regularization of nearly 40,000 irregular employees serving across various government departments.

“These employees have dedicated decades of service without any job security. It’s time they receive justice and equitable compensation,” expressed Advocate Puroshuttam Roy Bamran during a press briefing at the Agartala Press Club on Saturday.

The memorandum outlines that the irregular employees include Daily Rated Workers (DRW), Casual Workers, Contingent Staff, Part-Time Workers (PTW), Pump Operators, and Permanent Labourers. Many of these workers have been serving for over 20 to 30 years without being regularized, despite taking on responsibilities comparable to Group C and Group D employees.

Referencing past government decisions, the document highlights that irregular employees engaged before March 31, 2003, were regularized with Finance Department approval. Even those hired after this date had the opportunity for regularization upon completing ten years of service. The policy also extended to Part-Time Workers, allowing their status to be upgraded to DRWs.

“This policy was shockingly repealed on August 31, 2018, plunging thousands of workers into a state of uncertainty,” Roy Bamran stated. He also highlighted the struggles of these workers, forced to endure minimal wages without enjoying the benefits that come with permanent employment.

The organization has called for the revival of a clear and fair regularization policy. “We hope the administration will hear their voices and take necessary measures,” the advocate added with urgency.
