Tripura Assembly Hails India’s Cricketing Glory in ICC Tournaments

Agartala, 17th  March 2026 : The Tripura Legislative Assembly on Tuesday congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team, the India Under-19 men’s team and the senior men’s national team for their outstanding achievements in recent ICC tournaments, stating that their victories have brought immense pride and honour to the country.

Presenting the congratulatory motion in the House, Speaker-in-Charge Ram Prasad Paul praised the Indian women’s cricket team for clinching the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, the first time the country has won the prestigious title. In the thrilling final played on November 2 at the Dr. D. Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to script history.

Members of the Assembly appreciated the remarkable performance of the team under the leadership of captain Harmanpreet Kaur, highlighting the players’ dedication, teamwork and strong determination throughout the tournament. The House noted that the victory fulfilled a long-cherished dream for Indian women’s cricket after the team had previously reached the World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017.

The Assembly also extended its congratulations to the India Under-19 men’s cricket team for winning the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup on February 6, 2026. The final, held at the Harare Sports Club Stadium in Zimbabwe, saw India register a convincing 100-run victory over England.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India posted a massive total of 411 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs. England, in reply, were bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs. Opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a remarkable performance, scoring a blistering 175 runs off just 80 balls — the highest individual score in an Under-19 World Cup final. With this triumph, India secured its sixth Under-19 World Cup title, having earlier won the tournament in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022.

The House further applauded the Indian men’s senior cricket team for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. In the final held on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India defeated New Zealand by a dominant margin of 96 runs before a packed crowd of nearly 1.2 lakh spectators.

Batting first, India put up a formidable total of 255 for 5 in 20 overs. Sanju Samson led the charge with an impressive 89 runs, while Abhishek Sharma scored a quick 52. Ishan Kishan contributed 54 runs, and Shivam Dube added a rapid 26 runs off just eight balls to power the team to a massive total.

Chasing the target, New Zealand were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah delivered a match-winning performance, claiming four wickets for just 15 runs and earning the Player of the Match award. Axar Patel also played a key role with three wickets.

The Assembly noted that Sanju Samson was adjudged Player of the Tournament for his consistent and impactful performances in the knockout stages. It also pointed out that this victory marked India’s third T20 World Cup title, following earlier triumphs in 2007 and 2024, with captain Suryakumar Yadav lifting the trophy.

The House observed that these victories reflect not only India’s excellence in cricket but also the spirit of determination, unity and perseverance that inspires millions across the country. The Assembly extended its heartfelt congratulations to all players, coaches, support staff and sports administrators associated with the teams, and wished them continued success in the future.

Members further remarked that the remarkable achievements of these teams would motivate young athletes across the nation and enhance India’s standing in international sports.
