Agartala, 7th November 2025:  Power Minister Ratan Lal Nat today said that the patriotic hymn “Vande Mataram” composed 150 years ago, continues to resonate in the hearts of crores of Indians with the same emotion and rhythm even today.

While speaking at celebrating 150 years of Vande Mataram at Muktadhara Auditorium, Minister described “Vande Mataram” as not merely a poem or song, but a mantra that symbolizes India’s national consciousness, unity, and sacrifice.

He said the world’s best devotional mantra, Vande Mataram, was composed in 1875 in devotion to the motherland by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and later featured in his novel Anandamath in 1882.

“Since then, it has become a call of patriotism—a mantra that binds us as one nation. The phrase continues to inspire Indians as a pledge and responsibility toward the nation, especially in an era of technology, globalization, and social change”, said Minister.

The minister announced that the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram will be celebrated across India from November 7, 2025.

“The year-long commemoration will include social initiatives, cultural events, and educational programs designed to rekindle the spirit of patriotism and strengthen national unity”, he said.

Minister said that Vande Mataram was sung during the proclamation of the Provisional Government of Azad Hind and continued to inspire freedom fighters throughout the Indian independence movement.

He informed that Tripura’s Legislative Assembly had never sung Vande Mataram before 2018 due to political objections.

“Since 2018, the song has been sung in every session, and every member pays tribute. This reflects the revival of true national sentiment,” he said.

The minister urged the youth to learn about the song’s history and significance, saying, “At a time when divisions of language, religion, and region persist, Vande Mataram reminds us that we are all one. The 150th anniversary celebrations will bring that message to every corner of the country.”
