Agartala, 24th February 2026: In a heartening development for regional connectivity, the cross-border bus service between Tripura and Bangladesh has officially resumed after a prolonged pause of nearly two years. The much-anticipated revival marks a fresh chapter in people-to-people engagement and bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring regions.

On Tuesday morning, a bus carrying nine passengers from Dhaka crossed into Indian territory through the Akhaura Integrated Check Post in Agartala, where it was warmly received by officials and well-wishers. The arrival symbolized more than just the restart of a transport link — it reflected renewed trust, stability, and shared aspirations between the two nations.

Tripura’s Transport Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, personally welcomed the passengers and described the occasion as a significant and emotional milestone.

“This is not just the return of a bus service; it is the revival of a vital connection between people who share history, culture, and deep-rooted bonds,” he remarked, expressing optimism about strengthened cooperation in the months ahead.

The service had been suspended due to political instability in Bangladesh, temporarily disrupting an important travel corridor that facilitated trade, tourism, family visits, and cultural exchanges. With the restoration of stability and the formation of a new government in Bangladesh, the route has now been reopened, rekindling cross-border mobility.

Emphasizing the close relationship between Tripura and Bangladesh, the Minister highlighted how the two sides share more than a boundary — they share traditions, language, commerce, and familial ties. He expressed confidence that the renewed connectivity would foster growth in sectors such as business, tourism, and cultural collaboration.

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has extended his congratulations to Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Tariq Rahman, signaling continued diplomatic goodwill. Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar remains engaged with Bangladeshi counterparts to further enhance bilateral coordination. The restoration of bus and visa services is expected to significantly ease travel and boost economic exchanges. For residents on both sides of the border, the resumed route represents opportunity, reunion, and renewed hope.
