Tripura Bhavan in Kolkata Faces Backlash Over Poor Maintenance and Services

Date:

Agartala, 6th May 2026:  Fresh concerns have emerged regarding the worsening state of Tripura Bhavan in Kolkata, a government-run lodging facility that many people from Tripura depend on, especially those traveling for medical treatment.

Visitors report that the building has fallen into severe disrepair, with its current condition resembling a neglected shell. Once seen as a vital support system for Tripura residents in Kolkata, the Bhavan is now facing criticism for not maintaining even basic standards.

One of the major complaints centers around the canteen. Guests claim the food quality is extremely poor, with nearly 80% of meals reportedly going to waste. Given the lack of nearby dining options, patients and their families have little alternative but to rely on this service. Some have suggested slightly higher prices if it leads to better quality food, but no noticeable improvements have been made.

There are also concerns about staffing. Many visitors allege that most employees are not from Tripura, raising questions about accountability and the sense of responsibility in managing a state-run facility.

The grievance redressal system is another area of frustration. Complaints are often passed around without resolution, and senior officials are said to be difficult to reach. This has led to criticism of the administration for inadequate supervision and lack of responsiveness.

As dissatisfaction continues to grow, Tripura Bhavan has become a symbol of poor management. For many Tripura residents who rely on it during critical medical visits, its decline represents more than inconvenience—it reflects a serious lapse in dignity, care, and support.
