Agartala, 14th June 2025: The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday launched a statewide protest near Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) and Land Customs Stations (LCSs) along the Bangladesh border, condemning the recent attack and vandalism at the ancestral home of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in the neighboring country.
Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh, and the incident has sparked widespread outrage in the state.Leading a protest rally in Agartala and near the Akhaura ICP, BJP General Secretary and MLA Bhagaban Das accused the interim government in Bangladesh of fostering unrest and failing to prevent such attacks.
“Recently, a barbaric incident occurred in Bangladesh that sent shockwaves across Tripura and the entire nation. The ancestral home of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore was vandalised. The fascist and fundamentalist elements in Bangladesh have attacked the residence of Tagore, who is not only an emotion for Bengalis in India but also for the people of undivided India,” Das said.
“This attack is a direct assault on our shared cultural heritage. There must be a limit to such jealousy. But even Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore was not spared. These groups of hyenas attacked his residence,” he added.Das informed that protests were being held at multiple ICPs and across all districts on Saturday and would continue on June 16 in every assembly segment of the state.
“Through this protest, we want to send a clear message — those who attacked the ancestral home of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore are mentally unstable. Everyone must unite and raise their voices against such actions so that the perpetrators think twice before committing such acts again,” he said.
