Agartala, 22nd October 2025: The Tripura Civil Society (TCS) has announced that it will organize picketing across 25 locations in the state, including three in Agartala, as part of its 24-hour bandh on October 23. The bandh has been called to press for key demands such as action against illegal infiltration, implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, and enforcement of the Tiprasa Accord.
TCS leader and Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma confirmed that the protest would take place at multiple points across the state.
“In Agartala, picketing will be held at three sites — Circuit House, in front of the Tripura Assembly, and North Gate. However, the final decision will be taken by this evening. Apart from the capital, protests will take place in Kanchanpur, Panisagar, Hatai Kotor, and several other areas. The number of picketing sites may increase as we are receiving widespread public support for the bandh,” he said.
Debbarma added that Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has held several discussions with both the Tripura and Central governments regarding their long-pending demands.
“The Central government signed the Tiprasa Accord but has yet to implement it. Despite repeated appeals, no action has been taken. We even had to approach the Supreme Court to conduct village committee elections. Around 38 bills passed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) have been pending approval for months. The government’s inaction has left us with no choice but to protest,” he stated. He further expressed concern over the growing issue of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. “Recently, 24 Bangladeshi nationals were detained, and such incidents are happening almost every day. The government must act against illegal immigrants residing in the state,” Debbarma said.
Warning of intensified agitation if the demands remain unaddressed, he added, “If the government continues to ignore our issues, we will be compelled to launch a massive protest movement across Tripura.”
