Agartala, 23rd October 2026 : : Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Friday criticised the Opposition over its political approach, alleging that its leaders were more focused on regaining power than working for the welfare of the people. He said political parties could win public trust only through meaningful work and accountability, rather than protests and political statements.
Speaking to the media, Saha claimed that the Opposition was facing a difficult phase and struggling to establish a strong connection with the people. He asserted that voters were becoming increasingly aware of political developments, with social media playing a significant role in bringing information to the public domain.
The Chief Minister also questioned the Opposition’s choice of political partners, alleging that certain alliances were driven by narrow political interests. He maintained that attempts to influence people through misinformation and political strategies would not succeed in the long run.
On the Opposition’s demand for the deployment of central security forces for the forthcoming local body elections, Saha said the responsibility for deciding election-related security arrangements rested with the State Election Commission. He clarified that the state government had no direct role in such decisions.
“Whenever elections are held, the matter comes under the State Election Commission. I have no interference in it,” the Chief Minister said, advising those seeking additional security forces to take up the matter with the Commission.
He added that he had instructed the Director General of Police to coordinate with the relevant authorities, if necessary. According to Saha, the deployment of security personnel should be determined by the prevailing circumstances and the requirements of the electoral process.
Referring to the recent village committee elections, the Chief Minister said the polls had passed off peacefully and the results had been accepted. He also took a swipe at the Opposition’s protest programmes, arguing that road blockades and similar activities would not necessarily generate public support.
“If they think that the people of Tripura are with them simply because they block roads, they are living in a fool’s paradise,” he said.
Saha further accused the Opposition of concentrating on its political survival instead of addressing issues affecting ordinary citizens. He asserted that people would not continue to be swayed by political rhetoric and misleading claims.
Calling for a change in the Opposition’s approach, the Chief Minister said political leaders should concentrate on public engagement, constructive initiatives and their responsibilities towards citizens. He maintained that public confidence could be secured only through sustained efforts and tangible contributions to people’s lives.
