Tripura Congress Protests ED Action Against Sonia, Rahul Gandhi, says Fascist Governments Don’t Last

Agartala, 16th April 2025:  Former Tripura minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Wednesday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of orchestrating “fake” cases against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in a bid to divert attention from the country’s pressing issues ahead of the upcoming Bihar elections.

Addressing a protest rally organized by the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee in front of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Agartala, Roy Barman alleged that the BJP-led Centre was using central agencies and media narratives to malign the image of Congress leadership.

“The cases against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are fabricated — a ploy to defame them and distract the public from the real issues. As elections draw near, the BJP is desperately trying to shift the focus,” said Roy Barman.

He cited the Pulwama terror attack in 2019, in which 42 CRPF personnel were killed, questioning the lack of transparency around the investigation. “Even the then-Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has admitted it was a grave lapse. Yet, the Prime Minister used the tragedy for political mileage,” he alleged.

The senior Congress leader also raised concerns over rising unemployment, surging prices of life-saving drugs, and the plight of farmers. “This government is doing nothing to address these fundamental issues. Instead, it’s weaponizing institutions to run smear campaigns against the Opposition,” he said.

Clarifying the intent of the protest, Roy Barman added, “We didn’t come here to threaten or attack the ED. We’re here to remind them — and the government — that fascist regimes don’t last forever.”

He further claimed that the Congress party maintains detailed records of every incident from booth to national level. “The people will not be misled forever. These fake cases will be dragged till elections in Bihar and Kerala wrap up. But the public will respond. And this time, we’ll use the BJP’s own tactics — only more effectively,” he warned.
