Agartala, 29th August 2024: The Tripura Disaster Management Authority (TDMA) has officially designated the entire state as a “Natural Calamity Affected Area” following catastrophic flooding that has caused widespread devastation.
According to a statement issued by Brijesh Pandey, Secretary of Relief, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management, the recent floods have led to significant loss of life and destruction of both public and private property. So far, 31 people have lost their lives, two have been injured, and one person remains missing. Initial estimates suggest that the total damages could amount to approximately ₹15,000 crore.
In light of the severe impact, the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the TDMA, chaired by the Chief Secretary, convened on August 24, 2024, to assess the situation. After careful consideration, the SEC has officially declared the entire state of Tripura as a “Natural Calamity Affected Area.”
This decision underscores the immense scale of the disaster, with substantial losses affecting both infrastructure and livelihoods across the region.
